Aster Springs Expands Eating Disorder Treatment in Richmond, Virginia with New Outpatient Location

Brentwood, TN – November 14, 2023 – Odyssey Behavioral Healthcare (“Odyssey”), a nationally recognized leader in eating disorder and mental health treatment, announced the opening of its fifth Aster Springs Outpatient eating disorder treatment clinic, located in Richmond, Virginia. This expansion represents Odyssey’s commitment to providing quality care to individuals struggling with eating disorders in the Greater Richmond region.

The Aster Springs Outpatient in Richmond will join a network of clinically superior eating disorder clinics spanning multiple states, including Jeffersonville, Indiana; Cincinnati, Ohio; Columbus, Ohio; and Nashville, Tennessee. Additionally, these outpatient locations are connected with Aster Springs residential treatment centers located in the Nashville, Tennessee and Richmond, Virginia areas that provide clients with a full continuum of care to step up or down into the appropriate level of care.

Eating disorders continue to affect a significant portion of the population. According to the National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders (ANAD):

  • 9% of the U.S. population, or 28.8 million Americans, will have an eating disorder in their lifetime
  • 10,200 deaths each year are the direct result of an eating disorder
  • Eating disorders are among the deadliest mental illnesses, second only to opioid overdose

“The demand for superior clinical care for eating disorders continues to grow in Virginia,” says Richard Clark, CEO at Odyssey. “Aster Springs has gained national recognition for their commitment in delivering quality care for these complex conditions. This clinic addresses the need for outpatient services in the region and serves as a step down from residential and acute services.”

The clinic offers a partial hospitalization program (PHP) and an intensive outpatient program (IOP) for adults of all genders (18 years and older), allowing clients to transition seamlessly between levels of care as needed throughout their recovery journey. Each client’s treatment is supported by close collaboration with providers in the community throughout their treatment.
